Dear Wisdom Academy Families,

Welcome to another exciting school year at Wisdom Academy!

Our theme, “Our Children, Our Future!”, reflects our continued commitment to providing every student with the academic support, encouragement, and opportunities needed to reach his or her fullest potential.

As we begin the new school year, we are pleased to share West Virginia Summative Assessment (WVSA) results for Wisdom Academy from the 2025 – 2026 academic year. These assessments provide valuable information about what students know and are able to do in comparison to West Virginia’s academic standards.

While one assessment does not define a student, the results help us identify areas of strength and areas where additional instruction and support may be beneficial.

Summative Assessment results are an important part of the overall picture of academic progress and student performance. At Wisdom Academy, we will consider the WVSA results along with the following to determine overall student performance:

• Classroom performance and grades

• Teacher assessments and observations

• i-Ready Reading and Mathematics data, when applicable

• Success for All (SFA) data, when applicable

• Student attendance and engagement

• Individual academic goals and progress throughout the year

Our teachers and staff use these data, collectively, to help develop individualized instructional strategies and learning goals for students as identified in the IPPS. Students who demonstrate areas of need will receive targeted support, while students who demonstrate advanced understanding will be provided opportunities for enrichment and continued academic growth.

In the upcoming edition of our Newsletter, I will share a table that compares data for Wisdom Academy’s WV Summative Assessment results with statewide performance. I am extremely pleased with how our students performed on this very rigorous assessment!

As is evident, our fourth grades students exceeded the state average in both English Language Arts and Math. Our third, sixth and seventh also exceeded state assessment results in English Language Arts.

Our math scores in third, sixth and seventh need focus and intervention! Our faculty are in the process of analyzing the assessment result so that we have a rigorous plan in place to improve math skills. We have a math tutor on staff who will work with individual students in areas of need.

Instruction in individual classrooms will focus on enhancing deficits and accelerating students who are exceeding expectations. So, we anticipate a much-improved performance in Math for the 2026 – 2027 School Year.

At Wisdom Academy, we believe that family involvement is an essential part of student success. And, as such, we encourage you to provide any input or guidance which you feel might be helpful.

We welcome and encourage you to communicate with your child's teacher and with me and Dr. Dennis (at any time) regarding the results and your child's academic goals for the upcoming school year.

Thank you for entrusting your children to Wisdom Academy. We look forward to working together with you to make this another successful year of learning, growth, and achievement.

Sincerely,

Debra Harrison, Ed.D
